The latest book that I have reviewed from publishers David & Charles is 'Fast Fabric Gifts' by Sally Southern, and again I am giving you the chance to win my copy. This book has a number of cute projects that encourage trying new and varied embellishment techniques. You can read the full review in the articles section of the website.
From the book I made the ‘Pretty pencil case’, a zip-up case with an appliqué bird using Amy Butlers Wild Flowers in Navy. I found the appliqué and embellishing really very enjoyable. The book encouraged me to try something a little different to what I would have done without instruction, and for me this was a pleasant surprise. I’m really pleased with the end product and use it in my handbag.

ReplyDeletethe last fabric gift i made was a pair of shorts (made from the figgy patter i bort from backstitch!). they were for my little nephew so i admit i wimped out of putting pockets in! made then with some cute truck fabric which i also used to make my some some matching shorts from. prior to that i made a cute apron top and nappy cover (again from a back stitch pattern (my pattern collection isn't that big) for my frinds little girl. my friend had had enough of pink so i made it in orange! x

ooh, pick me, pick me! My last fabric gift was for my daughter - a "sketch book to go" roll with pockets for small sketch pad, pencils, eraser and pencil sharpener in beautiful green and pink fabrics.

ReplyDeleteThe last fabric gift I made was a little zip pouch with the name embroidered on it for the daughter of a neighbour.
Also a gift to myself of a rag work cushion cover from old t shirts and a bit of hessian. It was my first attempt at rag work.

ReplyDeleteThe last thing made last weekend was a cushion cover for my sister in law, it was a very bright yellow wonky log cabin with the centre piece embroidered with each of her family's initials. I think she liked it.

ReplyDeleteThe last fabric gift I made was a freehand embroidered sampler for my nieces 1st birthday. It commemorated her birth and had flowers and leaves all over it with her name and D.O.B. in the middle.

ReplyDeleteThe book looks amazing! The last gift i made was a for a little girl i am supporting who has escaped domestic violence. They have to leave with just the clothes on their backs, so a handmade gift means the world. It would be great to have some more ideas of things to make for other children and women in this situation.

I made a teddy bear out of liquorice allsorts fabric for my sister in law - her mum gave me the fabric, it was left over from bedroom curtains, cushions and quilt cove that SIL had when she was 11! She nearly cried when she saw it :)

ReplyDeleteThe last gift I made were a fabric toy elephant for a friends little boys and in progress (still due to broken sewing machine) is a rather large tea cup and heart embellished table cloth for my mummy!!

ReplyDeleteI made a quilted notebook cover for a member of my sewing/book club making up my own design (ie it was a little bodged) but the end result was pretty ok!
ReplyDeleteI'd love this book, the projects look so cute! I have had a run of making the same fabric gift, for an assortment of people! It is a fabric toadstool that I make using the Lucykate crafts tutorial. I can adapt each toadstool to suit it's recipient - a pretty floral lavender scented one for friends, or a pine scented button-spotted Fly Agaric for my brother!

My last handmade gifts were large corduroy drawstring toy sacks for my cousin's twin boys. A blue one with 'Guy's Toys' appliquéed on in a multi-check cotton and a green one for 'George's Toys'.
