A Quilt for Boy Two

A few months ago my boy number two learnt how to climb out of his cot.  This heralded 'The Big Upgrade'.  Boy number one would move from the bottom bunk to the vacant top bunk and boy number two would move from the cot to the bottom bunk.  Sorted.  All except that a cot quilt is like a postage stamp on a single duvet.  Boy two needed a new quilt to match the new bed.

I made boy number one a quilt when he upgraded from his cotbed to the bottom bunk. If you are interested, you can read about it here.  I wanted a quilt that would be different, but still 'go' with this one.  And, since I have had a bit of a thing recently with half square triangles (I've not even blogged my linen quilt yet, but Florence spoke about it here), I thought I would go with a chevron quilt.

Mil's quilt was blue, so that had to feature, and some of the same fabrics too.  The greys were inspired by my recent grey buying spree, and well, grey + blue = yellow, does it not?  For fabric inspiration see the Gotham Bundle for greys, the Bitter Sweet Bundle, or the Caipiroska Bundle for blues, and the Butterfinger Bundle covers the yellow.

The backing echos the front a bit with the yellow and blue which are Corn and Turquoise Klona.  My husband likened it to the Swedish flag, which in turn reminds me of my very good friend Sarah, unimaginatively nicknamed 'Swedish' by our gang, who has returned to her native country, and who I miss greatly (boo hoo, come back Sarah!).

Quilted in my current favourite method of circles... circles have been a revelation to me. They look lovely and neat, yet do not have that horrible habit of showing up your non-matching points and seams.  Straight quilting always seems to glare angrily at my haphazard piecing!

Oh, and bound in Simpatico Golden Straws because stripes on binding are ace.

Amen.

Cloud 9 Fabrics Simpatico

I am so excited about Cloud 9 Fabrics latest range.  I have been looking forward to this delivery for an unhealthy length of time.  So I'm very pleased to announce that Simpatico is now here and on the shelves at Backstitch HQ.

Simpatico is a collection of summery pastel prints designed by Cloud 9 co-founder Michelle Engel Bencsko and are to die for.  Even the colour names are brilliant: peachy, minty, pinkish and golden.

Of course these cottons are the premium quality organic of the sort that we now know to expect from Cloud 9 - silky and strokable!  And, equally brilliant for quilting and dressmaking.

We have the entire collection of twelve prints in the shop and also a fat quarter bundle of all twelve.

What will you make?

Cloud 9 Alegria

Alegria - Full Collection
I can't quite believe that these beautiful bolts have been on my shelves for nearly a week and I've not yet told you about it on the blog.  What on earth have I been doing?!!

So, may I introduce you to Alegria.  This is the latest collection from the wonderful Cloud 9 Fabrics who just keep bringing out more and more exciting ranges.  And this one, I think you will agree is a complete stunner.

Alegria - Blue Birds
Twelve organic prints of flowers and birds in vibrant colours.  Don't they look lovely? Well they look even better in the flesh, and the quality of the fabric is awesome, it has a really silky feel.

Alegria - Peacocks
We have a fat quarter bundle on the 'Packs and Kits' page and metres off the bolt under 'Patterned Fabric'

You'll be glad you splashed out on this one!

The Calm Before The Storm...

Sunsplash Bundle

It's like the calm before the storm here at Backstitch HQ.  I can feel the tension building.  I had to take a break in ordering new fabric lines when I knew we were moving house, and then of course on the other side there is always a little bit of a lag.

Beachcomber Bundle

However, I am waiting on a stock EXPLOSION!!  Honestly, I've gone a bit bonkers and I can't wait.  We're going to be stocking some exciting things like Aneela Hoey 'A Walk in the Woods', Cloud 9 'Alegria', Denyse Schmidt 'Flea Market Fancy Legacy 2012', Lizzy House 'Hello Pilgrim', Ellen Luckett Baker 'Quilt Blocks' and Lucie Summers 'Summersville'... and much more!  We're also getting in 15 of the most delicious colourways of the Moda Crossweaves.

Fine and Dandy Bundle
So, a small apology that I have let things run out rather, but just you wait!!  Eeek!!

In the mean time, I've put a couple of new bundles together: Fine and Dandy for tones of blue and green; Sunsplash for the killer blue and yellow combo; and, Beachcomber for the yellows.

The organic Cut Out & Keep from Cloud 9 now in the shop.

We've had the Cut Out and Keep range from Cloud 9 in the shop for a week now and it is selling well.  The range is organic (100% OE100 certified) and printed with low impact dyes.  Printed onto 3.6 oz poplin and 115cm wide, the cotton is great for dressmaking, quilting and craft.

The range is designed by South African artist and illustrator, Heather Moore, also known as Skinny laMinx, and frankly they are lush!

If you can't choose between them we have the 5 prints that we are carrying available as a fat quarter bundle.  We've named it the Riveredge.
